Therapy Services Offered

Individual therapy

Individual therapy has the potential not only to help restore psychological functioning, but also to allow clients to move towards more authentic, effective, and meaningful participation in life. This includes improving and healing relationships with others, as well as the very important relationship with oneself. Marley Lieberman uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to empower clients with tools to change how they relate to their own unhelpful thoughts and feelings, so that they are more free to make choices that align with their unique set of values.

In the process of individual therapy, individuals may explore their experiences with anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, difficult memories, relationships, family of origin, chronic pain/illness, passion, creativity and identity.

Couples or family therapy

Marley Lieberman empowers couples with tools to help them identify and interrupt maladaptive patterns, improve communication, increase safety and vulnerability, de-escalate conflict, and take personal responsibility. As a clinician, Marley Lieberman’s goal in couples therapy is not necessarily to help couples stay together or break up - rather to safely facilitate conversations that will increase empathy and understanding, so that couples decide for themselves how they want to move forward.

In the process of couples therapy couples may explore their experiences with trust, independence, sex and intimacy, anger, recovering from infidelity and other relationship traumas, (re)negotiating roles, cultural influences, and shared/conflicting goals and values.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic modality designed to reduce the emotional and physical reactivity associated with traumatic memories and adverse life events. Marley Lieberman uses EMDR in conjunction with talk-therapy to help clients integrate and heal from difficult life experiences that continue to negatively effect daily functioning, relationships to others, and conceptualization of self.

Marley Lieberman is an EMDR trained clinician through the EMDR institute. For more information about this treatment modality, please visit: http://www.emdr.com/what-is-emdr/
